Freedom of the press requires truth


President Obama’s replacement of  General Stanley McChrystal with General David Petraeus has once again exposed the blatant deception of much of America’s media.  This general was blasted as “General Betray-us” not quite 3 years ago when he was chosen by President Bush to lead the war in Iraq.  Now, the same media is calling President Obama’s choice “brilliant”, while purging their archives of this previous outrage against a great military leader.

I must scream from the mountaintop that FREEDOM OF THE PRESS REQUIRES TRUTH.  Otherwise, it is just PROPAGANDA.  Any student of history knows the results of feeding the citizens propaganda.
We are all in danger of losing our freedoms because our media has been taken over by ideologues who are pushing an agenda and are not being journalistically honest.
A free society cannot remain free with a steady diet of propaganda.  We don’t have to agree on policies, but we must have the INTEGRITY to present the FACTS, no matter how we may interpret them.

JUST TELL THE TRUTH!! And you will not find it necessary to purge stories from your archives.

Poetic Justice

It has been called poetic justice. Some call it Karma. Some say, “What goes around, comes around”. But whatever description you choose, the Democrats railing against George Bush for his slow response to Katrina has come back to bite them in the pants. It’s even Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, again. A Republican playwright could not have written a story like this if he tried.

This time, the governor of Louisiana was not inept, like the previous one, and it was the President and his administration that actually has stood in the way of action to mitigate the results of the disaster. Ask Bobby Jindal about that.

The President tried to revive his sagging poll numbers by stooping to profanity on a daytime television broadcast to show how “tough” he is. He just couldn’t pull it off. Maybe he should have sent Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago hit man, to take his place. Rahm knows how to do it the Chicago way. There are lots of examples of that.

But the best part to me is that the issue that may destroy Barack Obama’s administration is not taking over private corporations, or destroying our healthcare system, but it is OIL. Oh, he’s against drilling and such, but his ineptness as an executive has been magnified by his financial connection with BIG OIL, and his unwillingness to stand face to face with the CEO of BP and make some vital decisions. Once again, he has followed his old pattern of voting “present” instead of being a CEO himself.

During the campaign, many suggested that Sarah Palin, as a “vice-presidential” candidate, actually had more executive experience than the Democratic nominee for “President.” Her experience came as a governor of an OIL state and her confrontation with BIG OIL executives.

Oh, here’s an idea!!! Maybe President Obama could ask Sarah Palin to be his special emissary to BP. I bet she would know immediately who needs a butt-kicking and she can do it!

Another Liberal Giant Exposes Her Inner Soul

Conduct yourself wisely. There is Freedom of Speech in America, but it carries with it, consequences.


Helen Thomas, the so-called dean of the White House press corps, did not come to her conclusions about Israel overnight. It was painfully obvious that she, in an unguarded moment, exposed her soul. Perhaps her advanced age of 89 years could be blamed for her indiscretion if it were not painfully obvious that she continues to retain her mental faculties to this present day. She just let her inner soul come out, and it was ugly.

I can’t comprehend her basis for such outrageous comments. Is she ignorant of history? Does she not know what Germany and Poland were responsible for prior to, and during World War 2?

Does she not know that Jerusalem is called the city of David? His son, Solomon, built the beautiful temple that was later destroyed by the Persians. The “wailing wall”, a remnant of Herod’s temple, built in 20 B.C., attests to ownership of Jerusalem by the Jews. Occupiers? Hardly. Just asserting prior ownership.

Helen Thomas has a right as an American to say anything she wants, but there is a personal price to pay for Free Speech. I do not have to endorse it, nor am I required to give you the platform to say it.

Freedom of speech must be protected for a free society to exist, but hate speech should be, and must be, shunned by a society that values Truth from its citizens, no matter how prominent they may be.

Chicago on the Potomac

It seems that we now are experiencing “Chicago on the Potomac”. Although I have never lived in Chicago, the stories are well established that the “Windy City” has for decades been run by a political machine. Elections are simply small distractions, just bumps in the road, for those who are wielding power and influence. After being elected, the will of the voters is forgotten and the will of the power merchants becomes supreme. The unions and the community organizers chart the course of the administration.
Surprisingly, this type of “dictatorial” leadership has had great success for the Obama administration on a nationwide scale, because most Americans still refuse to believe that any President would blatantly rule against the will of the people. They continue to give our President the benefit of the doubt, refusing to believe that his administration would “intentionally” do what they are doing.

All former Presidents, both Democratic and Republican have chosen not to go too fast or too far, for fear of being voted out of office after one term. But the Chicago paradigm that these politicians have grown up in is different. They have experienced in Chicago that with the power of the unions, the voter manipulation by groups like ACORN, and the complacency of an electorate that is so gullible to smooth talking politicians, that they will still retain power for decades to come. After all, that’s how it works in Chicago.

The Democrats, led by Barack Obama, Rahm Emanuel and his Congressional “useful idiots” who are all-to-willing to surrender their constitutional power, are counting on this not only get past 2010, but to seal our country’s destiny by winning again in 2012. I sincerely hope that they are wrong!

Wrong this time

After reading my last blog, “Shaving with a Borrowed Razor”, it confirms to me that I am not a prophet. I supposed that the Obama Healthcare Bill would be halted in Congress. It wasn’t. Scott Brown’s election, though an amazing feat, was not enough to turn the tide against this horrible piece of legislation.


Many are suggesting a significant defeat of liberal Democrats in the fall and a complete repeal of Obamacare. I fear that repeal will not happen, but instead will just be replaced by a smaller Republican revision of the same. Hopefully, state supported abortion will be eliminated.

But as a country, we are hurtling toward economic collapse and a loss of many freedoms. Hopefully, my prophecy will again be wrong.

A Borrowed Razor



The recent election in Massachusetts brought to mind the strange title of a sermon I read many years ago – “Shaving with a Borrowed Razor.” This unusual phrase is found in the seventh chapter of Isaiah. After promising a “future” king for Israel - the virgin born child - God tells Israel that he will use a godless, Gentile king to bring an “immediate” judgment to the rebellious people of God.

In other words, in His sovereignty, God can use anyone or anything to bring about His will.

I was thrilled to hear that Scott Brown was elected to fill the seat of liberal, Ted Kennedy from Massachusetts. The irony is that the Health Care bill, that was framed as a tribute to Ted Kennedy, has been dealt a critical blow by this election result.

As a conservative, I have “many” issues with this bill. As a Christian, I have “one” major problem. It includes provisions for using my tax money to pay for the murder of the innocent unborn. If a doctor were to go through a hospital nursery killing the newborns there, he would be considered insane and would be arrested for murder. If he does the same thing only hours earlier in the delivery room, he is considered a caring physician. This is abhorrent reasoning, and to think that I was going to be “forced” to pay for it.

So this is the reason for my Biblical notation above. Scott Brown is a fiscal conservative, but did you know he is pro-abortion just like Ted Kennedy? It appears that God has used the seat of a leading liberal pro-abortionist, won by a conservative pro-abortionist, to answer my prayer to stop this ungodly bill with this awful provision.

Once again, God has shown His sovereignty and his mercy to Christians by ironically “shaving with a borrowed razor.”
Proverbs 6:17 “the Lord hates hands that shed innocent blood.”

The Ship of State Turns Slowly

In other words, no matter how popular you are, don't rock the boat too much.

There is a place for change as society changes, but our government has been so stable because nothing moves too quickly. That is a frustrating truth to most of us, because we want instantaneous results. But our founders showed their brilliance by establishing this kind of structure for governing our nation.

The election of a Republican, even a moderate one, would be impossible in Democratic Massachusetts if the Obama administration had not tried to turn the Ship of State too radically.

That is the lesson of yesterday's election.

A POOL OF IGNORANCE


I was just a college sophomore and he was a much older man. Our job was to pull a floating dock out of Lamoka Lake in the Finger Lakes area of New York. It had to be done because the lake would freeze in the winter and would destroy the dock.

We floated the dock to the shore without any difficulty, but it just wouldn’t come out of the water. There was just too much resistance from the sand and rocks on the shore. The rear wheels of the pickup we were using just started digging into the ground. I suggested that we put down two-by-fours to lessen the friction and allow the barrels to slide over them, but he was older and wiser than I. So he thought.

I got a safe distance away as he backed up to the dock and gunned the motor. When the cable became taut, the side of the floating dock exploded into a hundred pieces of splintered wood.

I think of the Obama administration in the same way as the super-wise leaders who refuse to listen to ordinary people concerning our economy. The side of the dock has already exploded, but they continue to try the same approach and are continuing to destroy what they are trying to repair.

Fortunately, my older friend was willing to listen to me and our job was completed without further destruction of the dock.

Unfortunately, President Obama and his counselors are refusing to listen to those who have experience in building businesses in the private sector. They have produced the strongest economy in the history of the world which has been brought to the edge of destruction by government loan regulations.

In other words, though the Obama administration is highly educated in the theory of economics, they are simply coming together to “pool their ignorance” to face our economic problems. And that is what they are offering to our country, “a pool of ignorance.”

THERE'S DANGER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD

President Obama’s Afghanistan policy reminds me of the story of the man who refused to take sides during the civil war. It seems he decided to wear a Confederate shirt with Union trousers, but to his surprise, found that both sides were shooting at him.

Neither side concerned with the way to conduct this war is satisfied with the announcement of his policy.  Our President is not delivering the number of troops requested by the commander on the ground and announces to the enemy his time for withdrawal. By this choice, he is putting our men and women in the unenviable position of trying to meet a predetermined deadline without giving them the manpower that military minds determined were necessary.

On the other hand, he is displeasing his own constituency by not withdrawing as soon as possible.

He has essentially tried to please everyone and has actually pleased no one. It would be better to take one side or the other and have at least half the people on his side.

I, of course, would prefer victory by an overwhelming force, but if we are not going to fight to win, a hasty retreat would be best for our military. Unfortunately, a hasty withdrawal or a half fought war will be seen by our enemy in the same way, as a victory for the terrorists.

GENERATIONAL THEFT


I’ve seen the pithy quote that says, “I’m spending my children’s inheritance.” We smile wryly with some understanding, realizing that it takes just about everything we make to just get by in today’s world.


But Congress has taken it to an all-new unbelievable level. They’re not just spending our children’s inheritance; they’re stealing from several generations. Without any regard for the future generations who will have to pay the bill, or live in abject poverty because of the destruction of our economic system, our Congress continues to spend.

You can’t spend your way to prosperity. Anyone with a scintilla of a brain knows this without being told.

Worse than that, IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!! That Constitution that they all pledged to uphold and defend against all enemies, both foreign and domestic, is being violated by those who “solemnly swore.”

I quote, “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to OURSELVES and OUR POSTERITY, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” The oppression of overwhelming debt will stifle “the blessings of liberty” for our posterity, if liberty even exists as a result of this GENERATIONAL THEFT.

Our political leaders, on so many issues, try to get our support by saying, “Oh this is for the children.” Get real!! If Congress were really concerned about the children, all of this spending would stop!!

THE BRILLIANCE OF OUR FOUNDERS


Our founders were brilliant men of wisdom. I would suppose that they would be disappointed with many who are representing our nation in the branches of government today. In the Declaration of Independence, they pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. We are woefully absent of leaders who are seeking to help our country, without aggrandizing themselves or their friends, or seeking to increase their power to dictate to others.

I have just read the constitution through 2 times in a very short period of time. I mean minutes, not hours. It encompasses the structure and duties of the entire government in only 10 pages in my copy, and this includes the first 10 amendments, our Bill of Rights.

The authors were precise in their statements and did not try to obfuscate the meaning of the document. It is understandable for all men, not just the highly educated.

I was amazed again at the scope of this document that anticipated future questions and has needed amendment so few times. Only 17 times in 220 years has change been necessary; amazing years that have brought us from horse and buggy to space flight.

If only our leaders would recognize that by moving away from the Constitution, they are replacing a diamond with cheap costume jewelry – gold with rusting iron – wisdom with foolishness!

Paul, the Apostle said to the Romans, “professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”

O, that it were not so! O, that we could replace our politicians with statesmen!

My SPIN on "spin"


Truth has always been under attack, but now has been elevated to a new art form that is both “recognized” and “idolized” by the media. Now it is called “spin”, and those journalists that previously exposed outright lies, now marvel instead at the ability of leaders to “spin” what has been said. That which is patently false is transformed into something that is acceptable.

We have forgotten that in stressful moments, we often “slip up” and say what we really think, not unlike the guilty person confessing their crime under the skilled cross-examination of Ben Matlock or Perry Mason. And now with our technology, the statement can be replayed immediately in audio or video format. It’s hard to deny “what we said”, so we hire people skilled in the art of SPIN to deny “what we meant.”

Of course, like Arthur Fonzarelli (the Fonz from “Happy Days”), our leaders would never stoop to say, “I was wrong”, so they have to say, “You were wrong in what you heard.”

SPIN is an attempt to deceive the hearers. An attempt to deceive the hearers is a lie. Therefore, SPIN is a lie, pure and simple.

As we used to say in geometry, Quod erat demonstrandum. No, we didn’t actually say it. We used the initials Q.E.D. Case closed – we have proven our point.

Freedom Czar

President Barack Obama has taken a presidential practice of creating czars to a new level.

These chosen ones have been given power to focus on specific areas of concern for the administration.  Some have been approved by Senate comfirmation, and others have served simply at the behest of the president.

The most famous czars in the past were in the areas of education and drugs.  One of the best known was Bill Bennett.  President Obama has appointed so many that the actual count for his administration is uncertain.

I am appointing myself as a Freedom Czar, one among tens of thousands, who have grave concerns over the continuing loss of individual freedoms to an ever expanding goverment.

This blog is dedicated to my humble, but accurate opinion on events that affect our freedom.
